Spectacular Views from the deck and veranda over the marina. The Quay is a world class restaurant serving the best cuisine in a beautiful interior with impeccable service. We source our food as locally and as sustainably as possible with many local producers being at the heart of our business. The bar and wine list is as equally as important as the food and we pride ourselves on having an incredibly extensive wine list serving some of the best national and international wines. So from the fish caught right here in Bream Bay by local fisherman to the wine made just up the road in Keri Keri come to the Quay to enjoy a truly local world class experience.
Our Story
The Great Highgate Trading Company Ltd was formed to manage the restaurant and farming ventures of Lloyd Rooney and Mike Fraser. The group has grown from a single restaurant, The Cove in Waipu Cove, and their beef and sheep farm, Highgate Hill in the Waikato to now include The Quay in Whangarei and The Dune in Mangawhai. Our farming ventures have also grown in recent months to include a market garden, The Vege Shack, in Maungakaramea near Whangarei in Northland.
The Quay to the Cove Cookbook
It’s a cookbook with a personal story, tracing the background of charismatic British entrepreneur Lloyd Rooney and his partner Mike Fraser, who have now just opened there 6th restaurant together in NZ.
Together they have the Cove in Waipu, an iconic cafe that made the top 100 eateries in NZ last year - The Quay in Whangarei, The Dune in Mangawhai and now Number 8 in Whangarei.
